Cal Kestis and His Lightsabers: A Journey of Survival and Resilience
During his apprenticeship under Jedi Master Jaro Tapal, Cal Kestis’s lightsaber was a blue single blade, which he constructed during his training as a youngling. Cal’s lightsaber was lost during Order 66 when Clone troopers shot it out of his hand. Following this, Cal used his fallen master’s damaged double-bladed lightsaber with only one working blade.
In the early Imperial Era, Cal repaired his master’s lightsaber on Kashyyyk, restoring its double-bladed functionality. Unfortunately, he accidentally destroyed it on Dathomir. Cal then constructed a new lightsaber on Ilum, using parts from Jaro Tapal’s and Cere Junda’s sabers. Cal’s new lightsaber was versatile, capable of being double-bladed or split into two separate sabers.
Cal Kestis’s lightsaber is symbolic of his status as a survivor, embodying his resilience. Who is Cal Kestis?
Cal Kestis is a Jedi Knight who was a member of the Jedi Order during the final years of the Galactic Republic. Originally a young Padawan trained under Jedi Master Jaro Tapal, Cal’s life takes a tragic turn with the enactment of Order 66, a secret decree from Emperor Palpatine commanding all clone troopers to eliminate their Jedi officers. Witnessing the death of his master and narrowly escaping with his own life, Cal goes into hiding on the planet Bracca, concealing his Force abilities and working in obscurity as a scrapper, dismantling derelict starships from the Clone Wars era.
After years of living in exile on Bracca, his cover is finally blown and forces him on the run from the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors, who are determined to extinguish the remaining Jedi. Kestis joins the crew of the starship Stinger Mantis, which includes former Jedi Cere Junda, captain Greez Dritus, Nightsister Merrin, and droid BD-1. The crew goes on a mission to locate a Jedi holocron that contains crucial information to help rebuild the broken Jedi Order. They succeed in retrieving the holocron, but after merely escaping an encounter with Darth Vader Kestis decides to destroy it in order to protect the galaxy’s Force-sensitive children from the evil Sith.
Throughout his journey, Cal faces challenges that test his beliefs, his relationship with the Force, and his understanding of his past. He stands as a symbol of hope and resilience in dark times, embodying the indomitable spirit of the Jedi.
