Why are Sith Lightsabers Red?

Red lightsabers are created when a dark side user, usually a Sith, exerts their will over a synthetic crystal until it submits or, in many cases, cracks. This is known as bleeding the crystal, and is what causes the trademark red lightsaber glow.
