Who is Sabine Wren?

Sabine Wren, a young and vibrant Mandalorian, emerged as a key figure during the rise of the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. Known for her colorful and expressive armor, as well as her artistic flair, Sabine was not just a formidable warrior but also a talented explosives expert and graffiti artist. Her intricate murals and tags often carried messages of hope and rebellion, symbolizing resistance against Imperial oppression.

Born into Clan Wren of House Vizsla, Sabine’s early years were deeply intertwined with the complexities of Mandalorian politics and traditions. Her proficiency in engineering led her to the Imperial Academy on Mandalore. Still, after witnessing the Empire’s cruelty and the devastating impact of weapons she helped design, Sabine chose to rebel. This decision, while morally right, caused a rift between her and her family, leading to years of estrangement.

As a member of Hera Syndulla’s Ghost crew with Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger, Sabine’s journey took her across the galaxy, confronting the Empire’s tyranny at every turn. Wren and the Spectres participated in many successful missions and heists before becoming part of the bigger rebel movement, fighting alongside legendary heroes such as Ahsoka Tano and Leia Organa. Over time, her path led her back to Mandalore, where she played a pivotal role in uniting her people against the Empire. Armed with Sabine’s Darksaber, she and her team faced both external threats and challenges, adding to her own legacy.

At several points throughout the war, the Ghost crew found themselves at odds with the vaunted Grand Admiral Thrawn and his Imperial forces. These confrontations came to a head during the Battle of Lothal as the Spectres finally defeated Thrawn and freed the planet from Imperial rule. The liberation of Bridger’s homeworld was a huge victory for the rebels, but came at a considerable cost. While aboard the Grand Admiral’s starship, Ezra and Thrawn disappeared into hyperspace, leaving behind no trace. Most people believed that the young Jedi had perished along with everyone else on the ship, but Sabine clung to the hope that her dear friend was still alive.

Following the liberation of Lothal, Tano took Wren on as an apprentice and began to train her despite the fact that she was barely Force-sensitive. During this time, Sabine’s family and her homeworld of Mandalore were destroyed by the Empire during the Night of a Thousand Tears. Fearing she would turn to the Dark Side, Ahsoka decided to end her training, and the two went their separate ways. After years apart, Ahsoka would reluctantly reunite with her former Padawan amidst whispers of Thrawn’s return and the resurrection of the Empire.

With Bridger’s old lightsaber, Sabine joined Ahsoka on a mission to investigate Thrawn’s whereabouts, with the hopes of finding her old friend. The duo would eventually find themselves on the planet Peridea, a mystical world in a far galaxy where the Grand Admiral and his forces had been living in exile for the last decade. Despite the evil forces at play, Sabine was able to find Ezra on this distant planet and patch up her strained relationship with Ahsoka.

The reunited rebels would once again engage Thrawn and his forces in battle as he attempted to make his escape from exile and return to their home galaxy. Although they were unable to stop the Grand Admiral, Wren was able to help Bridger return home after years of being stranded. She also unlocked the Force inside of her after years of struggling to do so. With Ahsoka back at her side and ready to resume Sabine’s lightsaber training, Sabine shows much promise in becoming the first Mandalorian Jedi in a millennium.
